There's not much of a connection between Nick Morgan and Ariel Dorfman, I suppose. The connection here is that I saw the film, A Promise to the Dead - a bio pic of sorts - about The 1973 coup in Chile and Ariel Dorfman, specifically at the Sanctuary for Independent Media. I learned a lot from this film. Its as if the recent history of Latin America does not exist in US public schools... then again, its hard to think of one thing i actually learned in high school. After seeing the film, I think it's one of the most important political eras and/or progressions to understand and think about with respect to protofascism and the real threat of a police state in this country. Anyways. the connection.....
It's political dog & pony show season everyone.
That means a couple of things:
1. it will become more obvious than usual that only certain speech is really free.
2. the US police state will be in full force defending the state and smashing dissent in riot gear.
