Black Friday & The Week after.....

I am sitting here by the woodstove, catching myself up on some of the news around the world and thinking, and just feel the need to, ya know... post a blog, i guess. On Black Friday aka Buy-Nothing Day, we saw the death of a temporary Wal-Mart employee trampled by crazed shoppers. Then a week later, a factory is occupied by workers in Chicago who refuse to leave until they are paid what they are owed by the company after Bank of America corporation cut off the company's line of credit. Then on Saturday a 16 year-old anarchist boy is shot dead by police in Greece sparking riots in the streets of athens, global outrage and solidarity events across Europe.

Whirl-Mart in Saltzburg

It's great to see Whirl-Mart carrying on as an active ritual - even if primarily for one day a year...

A New Tract: 'Suggested Donation'

This is an excerpt.  Download the entire mini-zine (print and web formats) as .pdf attachments below.

'Suggested Donation' was created for distribution and/or display in volunteer-run not-for-profit spaces.  It is intended to deepen the conversation around monetary support of anti-capitalist space and lengthen the vision of a market-free world.   It consists of 8 small pages and was produced in 2008.

enjoy.

31 y.o. and i still dont get it.

well, it's been a while since i posted one of these blog entries. i guess i have been busy 'doing' and less busy 'talking about' lately. i mean that specifically with reference to The Yarden. the yarden is what i am referring to as our house's sideyard. it used to be a house. then at ome point in the last couple decades it was condemned and demolished, then it was a crappy yard/dog pen for a while, and now it is well on it's way to being converted to a food producing garden with social capabilities of a fire pit and hangout area, and a work area - for chopping wood, building vehicles, etc. the peas are climbing, the carrots are popping out of the ground, the lettuce, greens, and radishes are coming out to play...

Speaking of Farming

nippleI have been doing a little research and a lot of dreaming about spending more time growing food and less time commuting (yes,i commute by bike), while maintaining that media activism and education are an overarching social issue where i can contribute positively.

Is this a possible reality? Stay tuned to my life in 2007 (and blog) to find out.
