Seth Tobocman
I recently coordinated a presentation of work by Seth Tobocman at the Sanctuary for Indpendent Media.  I had heard Seth's name exalted in radical circles during my time in NYC, but never had any opportunity or reason to meet him.  I knew him, as I suspect most people do, by his work on a collection of comics called World War 3 Illustrated and a graphic novel (big thick comic book) called War in the Neighborhood, which is pretty much the definitive history of the Tompkins square riots - told truthfully and powerfully and visually.

Well, this past week Seth and 'his band' Eric Blitz and Steve Wishnia along with their touring friend Valerie stopped through Troy and stayed at our house while they were here. Their show at the sanctuary was amazing, as far as i was concerned. So often, I am disillusioned by art that is trying to hard to be political and disillusioned by politics in general... the Disaster & Resistance performance was a perfect blend of art & politics for my taste. Seth's aura is radical to the core and the music was harder and heaveier than most you will hear in the sanctuary. The delivery was right on, and in your face. people loved it. we hope to have the video finished soon and will post it to Sanctuary TV.

Seth joins the ranks of sub-cultural semi-celebrities that have crashed at The Yarden, including Chris Carlsson, Anne Elizabeth Moore, Scott Beiben..

Greenhouse
The greenhouse is almost done!!!!  check it out!
Many people have been askign what are you gonna grow in there?  I really dont know.  I think I will plant a bunch of things and see what grows.  It would be lovely to be able to grow herbs, greens, peppers, and potatoes, but i just don't know\

Going to Argentina
After much deliberation and unwillingness to commit to spending the money on a mondo-expensive plane ticket, I have done it, and I will be travellign to visit Eliza and Mike in Buenos Aires in December!  This is very exciting.  The logic of this trip defies much of my thinking lately, in which I imagine myself travelling LESS and generally reducing the ole footprint. but i dont know if i will ever have good friends as tour guides in a city on the other side of the world again. I hope to link up with some community media activists while i am there. TV stations, IMC folks... we will see. Now that I bought the ticket, I have to plan some things!!!!

Splitting Wood

Its great to have a group of three households within a block of one another to share the rental of a big wood splitter.  I am really beat today, because I spent all day yesterday splitting wood and chopping up logs with a chain saw:

Holy Dumpster Dive Batman

after a long day of splitting wood, I enjoyed a beer in the yard and went on a walk with Shae to the nearby SaveLot dumpter, w hich has on occasion supplied us with some bounty. I had no idea what I was in for. I peered into the dumpster, and saw some potatoes. I reached for the bags... I got in. Bag after bag of potatoes! they were fine. I did find a few rotten bags, which I left behind... then oranges. a case of packaged mixed lettuce. squash. onions. a pumpkin. and more... i was making a pile that would never fit in my backpack... so i knew i was going to have to come back with the bike trailer.

In the end the dumpster yielded us:

-over 50 lbs of white potatoes (and one bag of red)

-bags of good mixed lettuce

-3 small yellow squash

-3 large white onions

-a 1/2 dozen or so green peppers

-a turnip

-about 25 lbs or oranges

-a big squash - kind of like a pumkin without ridges

-a small box of dream whip mix - ewww!
