I attended Bike Bike last year in Pittsburgh, but couldn't get the finances or availability together to make it this year. too bad. Bike Bike is an annual grassroots conference that started a few years back in New Orleans when people involved in community bike projects of all shapes and sizes across the continent started realizing that there was an emerging network of people doing all the same things autonomously and they could all benefit from meeting up and talking to one another. My experience at bikebike 07 was awesome. it was great to spend a weekend flooded with energy of people from all over the place with a neurotic passion for viewing bikes, community-building, and resistance to corporate culture as a key piece of the equation to bettering the world.
I write all of this to share with the TBR community that BikeBike 08 officially happened and is over (this year in San Fran). here are some pics from my friend Erok who is one of the coordinators at Pittsburghs shop: Freeride.
i particularly like the pics of the giant circle meetings that happen at bikebike and the photos of a 38 rider caravan heading from SF to Santa Cruz. makes me want to organize a large multiday tour for next summer... any takers?
also reminds me of pics i took last year at bikebike in Pittsburgh
Next years natl. BikeBike will be in Minneapolis, and I believe that the first BikeBike Southeast will occur in January in Atlanta. No word of a Northeast version yet... although i think it could be cool. off the top of my head there are volunteer operated shops just like TBR in Providence, Boston, Worcester, Ithaca, Buffalo, Burlington, Montpelier, Portland, Pittsburgh, NYC, Baltimore, Wilmington.... and more....
ok... sorry for the ramble. enjoy the pics. happy fall riding!!!!!
