Happy Birthday Gitmo

5 years of unlawful detention and torture. (mp3)

More troops! thats what we need!

How long until civilization crumbles underneath the heavy weight of global capitalism? just curious.

Photo Organization

Many of my flickr photos have been put into handy sets, and are viewable here. At the same time the camera that I inherited from EJC when whe upgraded has finally ceased to function. It's getting the E18 error, which stands for error 18, i think. aka. 'stuck lens syndrome'. The recent photos are from a myterious structure in upstate NY, which I appear to be demolishing in some of the images. These were not set up. More posts on that to come. I was sad to have missed the big memorial ride on Sunday here in NYC. Check out Fred Askew's gallery of photos. The Media Reform Conference is this weekend, an just about everyone I know will be there... but alas, not me. Gotta spread the travel-support love at work. Another thing: In 2005, I briefly met Alice Miceli on a trip to Finland to meet up with my good friend Ange Taggart. Recently, I found out that she was art of team of artists who travelled to Chernobyl -- this is part of the project. intense photographs. I recommend.

Creative Commons & Video Splogs

This is a quick post about recent events on the videoblogging' yahoo list serve... This morning I woke up and had some time while drinking coffee to read some of the zillion posts that get posted there by the most active pioneers of what has become known as videoblogging. OK. let me back up for a second. I think I actually AM a videoblogger. I think I maybe became one when I joined the high-traffic list, and actually am taking time to follow the intense discussion there and think about how I might be able to contribute. But, I have been posting video on the web since 2000. Very early renditions of this very website (back in 2000) had small video clips embedded and I was posting videos of Whirl-Mart and other protest activities on Indymedia . But videoblogging involves a bit more of a grasp on rss technology and the capabilities of aggregation and syndication that the combination of blog software and internet TV plat forms make possible. SO - WHAT'S THE STORY HERE? Well. the big thread today on the afformentioned email list was myheavy.com and how they were aggregating videos from google and blip.tv and posting them on their site wrapped in pre-roll and post-roll advertising AND in a special embedded player that was surrounded by ads. The folks from Galacticast were maybe one of the first to point this out (i lost track), so i decided to search for the show I have been puting out for several months now, My Survival Kit . Sure nuff! there it was... clad in ads. Well this story is getting longer than it needs to be. There are a couple points to make, though:

An Interview with Writer Derrick Jensen

I am just finding Jensen's stuff and a lot of his ideas resonate with some stuff i have been thinking about or a while. Check out this MP3 audio interview below (you have to go about halfway through part 1 to get to it): Part 1 | Part 2

Uprooted

I saw a moving movie tonight. It was not the kind of movie that makes you cry or the kind that makes you angry. Yes... I was sad, and yes, I was upset, but more importantly, Uprooted made me think, question my philosophies, and fed me knowledge that i don't really have access too. There are a lot of great docmentaries floating around out there that pull certain threads together to make a great story. But most of the time it is the pulling together of the threads that is impressive and the story itself is something I could have concluded myself....
